What does, “It is Finished,” mean?

“It is finished,” what did Jesus mean when he said these words on the cross? Literally, figuratively, what does it mean after all he had been through, all he had tried to do in love, the Sadducees, the Pharisees… the 30 pieces of silver. What did he die for that would cause him to call out in his final moments, “It is finished”?

We have been taught that he paid the price for our sins and fulfilled prophecy. So, was it greed that was finished? Hatred, alienation, poverty, violence, lying, racism, judgment… these are finished? All condemned, all crucified? Now rising to the glorious release of God’s unbounded Love embracing the entire world.

Then how do we show our gratitude to him? Was he calling for all “Believers” to rise with it, through his sacrifice, to the true attributes of Spirit… not bound by anything. To embrace his example, generously giving through love, truth, forgiveness, compassion and healing, in mutual understanding and patience. In true transformation… Is that what Jesus hoped for us to embrace when he said, “It is finished”?

I believe he expected nothing… but he offered us everything. Everyone must answer the question. If we truly listened to his parables, his messages, his prophetic words, his teachings, his example, his acceptance, his tender kindness and love, how should we strive to live? For we are told in the Word that God is Spirit in us.

Happy Easter, sisters and brothers.

Love,
Jane
